FiSHing Auction Breaks Previous Records
By Brian Colella
On January 27th at their 3rd Annual FiSHing for a Cure auction, the Pacific Northwest Friends of FSH Research raised over 191,000 dollars for FSH Muscular Dystrophy Research. The Kirkland-based nonprofit organization hosted the event featuring auctioneer John Curley at the Bellevue Hyatt for the third consecutive year. Thanks to the generosity of their 290 guests the auction was their most successful yet, raising a record amount which will fund new research projects at the University of Washington.
John Curley, host of KING-TV's "Evening Magazine," delivered a lively and engaging performance as he orchestrated the auction of more than 30 live auction items. His great energy was instrumental in the overwhelming success of the event, keeping guests interested and active in bidding wars throughout the course of the evening. For those unable to attend this year or just want more, Mr. Curley has agreed to return for the 4th Annual "FiSHing for a Cure" auction scheduled for January 26, 2008.
The Pacific Northwest Friends of FSH Research strongly encourage anyone interested in donating their time or money, and gratefully accept any and all support, especially volunteer time as the auctions grow larger with success. Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy (FSHD) is the second most common form of Muscular Dystrophy among the adult population and third most common over all age groups, yet there has been very little money or research committed to a treatment or cure for this condition. To continue funding research projects and moving forward with hope of someday being able to treat or cure FSHD, continued and increased support from the community will be instrumental.
Businesses are invited and welcomed to make themselves a part of this groundbreaking venture through sponsorship opportunities and donation of goods and special services to be auctioned off for charity. Everyone is welcome to contribute to this charity however they can, be it underwriting donations, volunteering time or donating auction items.
