I have been focusing on pluripotent stem cells, differentiation and gene editing since 2009 and have established expertise in generation of stem cell models for genetic diseases. My recent research in Emerson lab has focused on iPSC gene free myogenic induction technologies leading to the discovery of a novel technology to efficiently isolate stable lines of iMyoblasts from patients with FSHD and other muscular dystrophies. My research on iMyoblasts has shown that iMyoblasts and cardiomyocytes induced from LGMD2G patient iPSCs can be efficiently edited to correct the TCAP micrduplication disease mutation (Iyer et al., 2019, PMID: 30944467).
